Moosehead Lake Vacation Rentals
Moosehead Lake is the largest lake in Maine and one of the most remote and spectacular wilderness destinations in the Northeast. At over 75,000 acres, it offers world-class fishing, moose watching, snowmobiling, and seaplane access to backcountry ponds. Vacation rentals here are lakefront camps and cabins that put you deep in the Maine woods, far from the crowds of the coast.

Best Areas to Stay at Moosehead Lake
Greenville is the main gateway town at the southern tip of the lake, with outfitters, float plane services, restaurants, and the most rental options. It is the logical base for most visitors and has easy access to the lake and surrounding trails.
Rockwood and Tomhegan sit on the western shore of the lake with direct views of Mount Kineo, the dramatic cliff that rises from the water. Rentals here are more remote and best suited for experienced Maine woods visitors.
Northeast Cove and Spencer Bay offer true off-the-grid lakefront camps accessible by boat or seaplane. These are for visitors who want complete wilderness immersion with no neighbors and no cell service.
When to Visit Moosehead Lake
Ice fishing season runs January through March with rentals on the ice available from local outfitters. Spring is prime moose watching season as the animals come to the lake shores and roadsides. Summer offers fishing, kayaking, and seaplane tours. Fall brings spectacular foliage and the start of hunting season. Snowmobile season from December through March draws a large winter crowd to the Greenville trail network.
